Meet Kai

Hi, I'm Kai (aka Kyle). Product designer, MS in Information Experience Design from Pratt, BA in Cognitive Science (Computation & Cognition) from UPenn.

Right now I'm Lead UX Designer at Focus Camera in Brooklyn — the only designer across three ecommerce brands, about 15,000 products and 800K monthly sessions between them. I led the design side of our move from Magento 2 to Shopify Plus (conversion up 25%, AOV up 10%), rebuilt our site architecture and primary sales flow (add-to-cart up 149%), and redesigned our B2B landing page (submissions up 50%). I also built and still maintain the Figma design system holding all three sites together.

Before this I was a UX Researcher and Operations Assistant at Focus Camera, and before that a UX Design Consultant at Pratt's Center for Digital Experiences, working on research and service design for nonprofit and institutional clients.

The cognitive science background is why I lean on research and analytics before I lean on opinion. I like being in the room with users, whether that's interviews, surveys, or moderated testing.

Outside of work: volleyball, running, anime, and building my own habit-tracking app.
